16 killed, 36 injured in road mishap in Madhya Pradesh

The victims hailed from Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh and were on their way to Allahabad after having darshan at Maihar when the mishap took place.

Sixteen persons, including five women and a child, were killed and 36 others injured when the truck they were travelling in overturned near Suhaagi Ghat, about 70km from here, last night, police said today.
 
The victims hailed from Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh and were on their way to Allahabad after having "darshan" at Maihar when the mishap took place, they said.
 
Those killed in the accident were identified as Jagatpal Lodhi, 50, Raja Ram, 40, Sushila, 35, Mahavir, 36, Nand Lal, 60, Bhagvati Yadav, 63, Pallu Pazi, 40, Kamla, 45, Ram Dulari, 30, Chetilal, 42, Rikku, 50, Sumitra, 52, Sunita, 15, Sambodhi, 15 and Kuldeep 6, they said.
 
Arrangements have been made to send the bodies after post-mortem and the 17 seriously injured have been admitted to the Sanjay Gandhi hospital here for treatment, police said.
 
The remaining 19 injured were discharged after being given first-aid treatment, they said.
 
The district administration announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3,000 each for the families of the victims and Rs2,000 each for the injured, official sources said.

Meanwhile, a sum of Rs10,000 each was sanctioned from the chief minister's relief fund for the families of those who died in the accident, they said.
