10 killed, six injured in Uttar Pradesh as truck runs over them

Ten members of a band party were killed and six others injured when a truck ran over them near here, police said today.

The incident happened yesterday at Manemau, about 60 km from the city, when a speeding truck ran over the members of the band party, who were unloading their equipment and musical instruments from a tractor trolley near the railway station on Grand Trunk road, they said.

While eight persons died on the spot, two others succumbed to their injuries while being taken to Kanpur, police said.

The band party was returning from nearby Araul village, they said, adding that the injured were rushed to a nearby health centre.

Search is on to nab the truck driver who fled after the incident, police said.
