In yet another hit-and-run incident, one person was killed and another injured when a speeding car hit their cycle on Sola over-bridge at 2 am on Monday.

But by Monday evening, the police were able to trace the car and identify its owner on the basis of the car's registration number provided by a doctor who happened to be passing by at the time of the accident.

The man killed in the incident has been identified as Laxman Suthar, a 20-year-old carpenter from Rajasthan. The injured man, Govind Suthar, is also a carpenter from Rajasthan. The owner of the culprit vehicle, a Hyundai Accent, has been identified as Jaimin Dave, a resident of Memnagar.

Sola police said that the driver of the vehicle hit the two carpenters on a cycle after he lost control of the car. While Laxman died on the spot, Govind suffered serious injuries and had to be admitted to Sola civil hospital for treatment. The rogue car, howeverdrove away from the site after the accident.

The whole incident was witnessed by a Memnagar-based ENT doctor who was coming from Gandhinagar in his car. The doctor immediately noted the speeding vehicle's registration number (GJ1-HF-191) and even tried to stop it. But the driver managed to escape.

The doctor called SB Trivedi, senior police inspector of Chandkheda, who is a friend of the doctor. Trivedi immediately called the Sola police and informed them about the accident.

On the basis of the information they had received and with the help of the RTO, the police were able to trace the vehicle. Police said that the owner of the car, Jaimin Dave, works as an executive manger at Petal Nissan, a car showroom on Sarkhej-Gandhingar road. The vehicle, a Hyundai Accent car, was found at Shikha Motors in Naranpura area where Dave had allegedly taken the car for repairs after the accident.

However, Dave is yet to be arrested. Police said he was not found either at his residence or his office.
