The work on a special tourism zone may begin in the state this new year. The concept of special tourism zone was introduced in the Union Budget of 2017 and five such zones were announced by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Now, the rules have been formed, and a proposal may soon be made to the state government by the Ministry of Tourism, sources said.

It is therefore expected that work on the same will begin soon, including development of about 500 acres of land in the state, which may be ear-marked to create this zone.

Sources in the department of tourism, however, mentioned that any comment can be made on the scheme once the rules are read.

Notably, this development will give a fillip to the already burgeoning tourism infrastructure of the state, as it will get resorts, art galleries, multiplexes, etc. It will also be connected to major railway stations, bus stand, airport, etc.
In recent months, funds have been sanctioned for project 'Integrated Development of Pushkar-Ajmer' under the PRASAD scheme of the Tourism Ministry.

Rajasthan towns also make a significant portion of the Krishna circuit scheme being developed to promote tourism in the country.

The state had already been sanctioned Rs 93.90 crore under the 'Swadesh Darshan' scheme of the Union Government, in the financial year 2016-17.

In a data issued by the Ministry of Tourism, it had been revealed that Rajasthan has been sanctioned this amount for the development of more than a dozen temples across the state.

Besides these, Jaipur's Govind Dev ji temple will be developed as a tourist and spiritual hub under the Jaipur Smart City Mission. Sri Krishna Smart Circuit will develop the temple connecting it to Tadkeshwar temple. Jaipur Smart City Limited (JSCL) has already prepared the Detail Project Report (DPR) for the same.
