A manager with the Central Bank of India and his aide allegedly demanded sexual favours from a farmer’s wife in order to approve a crop loan in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district.

According to the local police, both bank manager Rajesh Hivase and his aide Manoj Chavan were absconding since the incident was registered on Thursday. “When the crop loan proposal was submitted, the bank manager asked the farmer his contact number so as to clear doubts, if any, during scrutiny. The farmer gave his wife’s contact number. The bank manager, who made a call to the farmer’s wife, however, spoke in obscene and lewd language and demanded sexual favours in return for clearing the loan request,” said local police.

“The manager, through his aide, even told the farmer’s spouse that if his desire is fulfilled, not just the pending crop loan request, he will also offer her another loan package. However, the woman recorded the phone call of manager and submitted the recording to Malkapur Police station in Buldhana. They had also registered the police complaint against bank manager and peon,” said the police.

BR Gavande, inspector, Malakapur police station, said they are investigating the case. “We have registered a complaint against bank manager Rajesh Hivase and peon Manoj Chavan. The culprits will be nabbed soon,” Gavande said.

The issue also found resonance with the political parties, with the Congress stating the incident reflects the sad state of farmers in state.

Shame & Blot On Maha Image: Chavan

Maharashtra Congress president Ashok Chavan said the ‘shameful’ incident has put a blot on the state.

Under the BJP regime, farmers are most worst affected, thanks to the wrong govt policies. There is complete apathy towards farmers, he said.

Dhananjay Munde, Leader of Opposition, State Council also slammed Chief Minister Fadnavis for the incident.

The bank manager and his aide should be given the harshest of punishment. No other farmer should face such a humiliation, he said.
