Woman cop attempts to commit suicide due to job's stress in Tamil Nadu

A 25-year-old woman police constable in Tamil Nadu (TN) attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison on Wednesday due to alleged work related stress. She was rushed to a government hospital.

Constable Bommi was deputed to the All Women Police Station (AWPS) recently from the Armed Reserve in Villupuram (TN). Bomm was allegedly burdened with continuous work schedule covering profiles like sentry and court related work which caused a lot of stress. After her request for change of duty was allegedly turned down, she decided to take the extreme step.

"She wanted change of duty. She was asked to wait till evening. However, she consumed poison," said Police Inspector Prabavathi​ (AWPS), Bommi's superior officer. Prabavathi​ denies that the allegations that the constable was burdened with work. However, stated Bommi threatened to commit suicide if her duty was not changed immediately. "I have informed higher officials about what happened," said Prabavathi.
