Two CID offices of the Bomb Disposal Squad died after being injured while diffusing crude bombs at West Bengal’s Malda district on Monday. The officers, identified as Bishudanand Mishra and Subrata Chowdhury were injured while diffusing crude bombs that were recovered from a blast site, which claimed four lives.

The three officers were rushed to the Malda Medical College and Hospital with injuries. The two officers were being shifted to a hospital in Kolkata from Malda for treatment when they died. The current death toll stood at six, with the third CID officer’s condition still remaining serious.

On Sunday night, a crude bomb went off in Malda district’s Baishnabnagar. While four people were left dead, six suffered serious injuries. According to sources, the deceased and the injured were making crude bombs at a house when, accidentally, one such bomb went off. When the high-intensity bomb exploded, it created a loud sound and shook the entire area.

RAF and district police officials reached the spot immediately and shifted the injured to Malda Medical College and Hospital. While four were declared brought dead, six others are serious and are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Locals allege that the house was being used by the inhabitants as a factory to manufacture bombs. Meanwhile, police officials are posted at the blast site and they have recovered explosives and other bomb-making materials. Police have sealed the house for further examination.

TMC has claimed that all four who died belonged to their party and that bombs were hurled at them since they refused to vote for Congress in the ongoing elections.
