In an organisation reshuffle of West Bengal BJP state committee, Roopa Ganguly, president of Mahila Morcha, state women’s wing of the party has been replaced by Locket Chatterjee, actor turned BJP leader.

“Ganguly, who is now a Rajya Sabha MP, would be used by the national leadership in the party’s work nationally and would have to do more travelling across the country. She would not be able to devote the time required, to Mahila Morcha,” state BJP president Dilip Ghosh said on Monday at a press conference.

Roopa Ganguly, talking to DNA said that the change has been brought about with her full consent. "Mahila Morcha needs more active work. I have been talking to Central BJP leaders about it for quite sometime now," she said

The new vice presidents includes Biswapriya Roy Chowdhury, Dr Subhash Sarkar and Krishna Bhattacharya. The Yuva Morcha which was headed by Tushar Kanti Ghosh earlier would now be replaced by Debjit Sarkar while Ghosh would be made the state secretary of the party.

Sources said that there was a lot of undercurrent between the present state president and his immediate predecessor Rahul Sinha regarding members of state committee. Sources close to Sinha said that he had had a word with party Central leaders who had proposed this reshuffle. “Earlier the members were mostly anti-Rahul Sinha. Now there is a good mix of people from the Rahul and Dilip camps,” a party insider said.

Sinha, who was on his way to Delhi to attend an event, Save Bengal at the Constitution Club on July 26, was not ready to comment on the issue.
