West Bengal has gone from bad to worse under TMC: Yogendra Yadav

Just a day after the West Bengal unit of the Aam Aadmi Party warned volunteers of dire consequences if they attend the ‘Swaraj Samvad’ chaired by Yogendra Yadav, the expelled AAP leader said that West Bengal had taken a turn for the worse under the Trinamool Congress. 

“West Bengal has gone from bad to worse. The Left Front government destroyed the democracy of the state. People were feeling suffocated in the state and voted for change by electing the Mamata Banerjee-led government. But the Trinamool Congress has outdone the Left Front in destroying the democracy of the state,” said Yadav after chairing the two Swaraj Samvad meets in the state.

On Saturday, Yadav chaired the first Swaraj Samvad meet at Islampur in North Dinajpur district of Bengal, followed by another meet in Kolkata on Sunday. The meet was attended by estranged and active AAP members of the West Bengal unit, despite the warning issued by the party.

This apart, Yadav claimed that the BJP was playing the communal card in West Bengal. “BJP is playing the communal card and indulging in dirty politics. Mamata Banerjee has let the people of Bengal down and people who had a lot of expectations from her are desperately looking for alternative politics,” added Yadav.

He also highlighted that the biggest challenge in establishing the ‘Swaraj Samvad’ would be to win the trust of people who were disappointed by the AAP split.

When quizzed whether they planned to contest the West Bengal 2016 assembly polls, he said, “We have not taken a call on that yet. Our Bengal unit of Samvad will sit down and chalk out the next step forward,” Yadav said.
