Reacting strongly to alleged conversion of about 150 tribal Christians to Hinduism in a programme organised by the VHP in Birbhum district, the ruling Trinamool Congress on Wednesday said the administration would take a stern action if it was done forcefully.

"Let me say this, if there is even a hint of coercion or forced conversion, the issue will be dealt with in the strongest manner possible," Trinamool Congress national spokesperson Derek O'Brien tweeted.

He was referring to the incident in which at least 150 tribal Christians today "pledged to follow Hinduism" at a village in Rampurhat area in the presence of VHP National Secretary Jugal Kishore.
