Amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that water belonging to India cannot be allowed to flow to Pakistan.

Addressing a rally after laying the foundation stone for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bathinda, PM Modi said, "My farmers have a right over the water that flows through Indus. I will strive to get that water back. Water that belongs to India cannot be allowed to go to Pakistan."

He also said that the government had formed a task force on the Indus Water Treaty to ensure that farmers of Punjab and other states get every drop of water due to them.

Referring to the surgical strikes, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan now knew fully well what the Indian Army was capable of. "We made them realise the strength of our armed forces," he said

Asserting that when the school in Peshawar was attacked, every Indian was sad, Modi said, "People of Pakistan should tell their rulers- lets fight corruption, fake notes. I urge people of Pakistan to ask their rulers to fight poverty, black money and fake currency and not against India."

A day ago, upping the ante, Pakistan had warned India that its "battle hardened" military was capable of responding to any aggression, with army chief General Raheel Sharif saying that if ever Pakistan launched surgical strikes, India would not be able to forget it for generations.

"If Pakistan were to launch surgical strikes, India would not be able to forget it for generations to come," Sharif said just days before his scheduled retirement. "India would be teaching its children, as part of syllabus, what a surgical strike means if Pakistan launched such strikes," he said.

General Sharif also dismissed India's assertion that it had carried out surgical strikes in Pakistan. He said that the Pakistan Army was capable of teaching Indian forces a lesson.
