Following heavy rain, a part of bridge-cum-barrage constructed across the Malaprabha river got washed away by strong currents on Tuesday.

A section of a new bridge which was constructed between Sangolli village in Bailhongal taluk was yet to be inaugurated.

According to Zee reporter Nischita, the barrage work was carried out at the cost of Rs 5 crore.

Several parts of the state have been lashed by rains in the past few days. The heavy downpour was continuing in Belagavi and adjoining area.

As many as 104 rain-related deaths have been reported in Karnataka since April.

Revenue Minister R V Deshpande has directed officials to take up relief works in affected areas on a war footing.

"There have been 104 rain-related deaths reported so far, of which 94 were due to lightning, 10 due to drowning and tree or wall collapse. We have issued directions for providing compensation to almost all of those affected immediately," Deshpande said.
