A team of 40 officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday landed in Bhopal to start their probe into all cases related to the infamous Vyapam scam. According to the officials of the CBI, joint director of the probe agency, RP Aggarwal, will be heading the probe into the scam as well as the deaths of more than 40 people during the course of investigation headed by the Madhya Pradesh government-constituted Special Task Force. The joint director on Monday also held a preliminary meeting with the STF chief Sudhir Sahi and took stock of the situation. The STF has been probing the Vyapam scam since it came to light in 2013, when the Indore police arrested 20 people who had come to impersonate candidates for PMT 2009. Prior to this, a committee was established by the BJP government following complaints of racketeering in Vyapam. Police had arrested hundreds of people involved in the scam but it was only after 2013 Indore bust that the sheer scale of the fraud was exposed prompting the government to constitute the STF which is now expected to share all the information with the CBI.

"A meeting with the STF chief has taken place and we have begun our official probe," said Kanchan Prasad, spokesperson of the CBI.

According to her, the 40 member team of investigating officers are yet to be given specific duties and assigning particular jobs will take place in the coming week. "By this week we will be able to tell our officers which areas they must look. The team may be further divided in groups and can take up multiple cases depending upon the need of the hour," the spokesperson said.

When asked whether the deaths related to the scam will be taken on urgent basis, she said that the job scam as well as mysterious deaths will be probed simultaneously.

Gwalior, which has seen 12 deaths so far, will also be in the priority list of the CBI along with Morena. At least five people belonging to Morena have also died during the investigation including prime accused Narendra Singh Tomar. Superintendent of Police, Gwalior, told dna, that a list of deaths from Gwalior was sent to the STF, which claims that at least 9 of the 12 deaths took place before the investigation was initiated into the scam.
