VK Sasikala's husband to get dead teen's organs

As AIADMK leader VK Sasikala's husband M Natarajan on Wednesday successfully underwent a dual organ transplant in a private hospital here amidst reports of flouting of transplant norms. However, the private hospital denied the reports and said that transplantation was done as per the rules.

Natarajan underwent liver and kidney transplant after he received the organs from a-19-year-old daily wager who was declared brain dead after being flow to Chennai in an air ambulance on Monday night from Thanjavur Government Medical College hospital. Karthik, hailing from Thanjavur, was admitted to the government hospital on September 30 with severe head injuries and associated injuries including long bone fracture.

A retired senior government doctor on condition of anonymity said that the particular case of organ donation raises several questions. "Who arranged for the air ambulance? Who paid for it? If somebody else, a third party, paid for his air ambulance, then that itself is illegal. It amounts to buying organ that is illegal," the doctor told DNA. The hospital said that despite treatment, the daily wager succumbed to his injuries.
