Amid speculations on whether Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will avoid sharing the dais with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 25 at Viswa Bharati University in Shantiniketan, sources at the University said that Mamata was likely to join the event and that her name has been printed on the invitation card.

Senior officials of the University admitted that after Modi's comment on the poll-violence in Bengal, there was a lot of uncertainty whether Mamata would partake in the event. "We were not sure if she would participate and there had been no official confirmation, but now the district administration has said that she would be attending the event and accordingly we have printed invitation cards as well," a university official told DNA.

While Modi would be there for the university's convocation, Bangladesh Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina will also be present for the inauguration of Bangladesh Bhawan at the University. The Bhawan comprises a library, museum, an auditorium and a research centre. Construction of the Bhawan had been funded by the Bangladesh government.

Officials said that the last prime minister to have attended the convocation at Viswa Bharati was Manmohan Singh, in 2008.

A bilateral talk between the two Prime Ministers has also been scheduled at Shantiniketan. Sources said that a number of issues, including that of the Teesta water sharing agreement and that of Rohingyas, were likely to be brought up during the meeting.
