Visually impaired girl from Vadodara cracks CAT, gets into IIM-Ahmedabad

A 21-year-old visually impaired girl has racked the CAT and has secured admission into Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad.

As per reports in The Times of India, Prachi Sukhwani, a BBA student from Vadodara’s Maharaja Sayajirao University's Faculty of Commerce, has suffered from a condition called macular dystrophy since she was in Std III. This has resulted in loss of 80% of her vision over the years.

Although there is currently no cure for the condition, Prachi is determined. “My short term goal is to join a company, preferably a multinational. Once I get some experience, I will have my own start-up. But my long-term goal is to open an NGO for the blind," she told The Times of India.

According to her father Suresh Sukhwani, Prachi got calls from IIM-Ahmedabad, IIM-Bangalore and IIM-Kolkata and appeared for the interviews.

MSU’s BBA programme’s Facebook page also dedicated a post to her. “What comes to your mind when you hear the name of IIM? Thoughts like it's impossible man. Who would work so hard? Well, Prachi Sukhvani of MSU BBA had some different dreams, some different thoughts, everything is possible if you work hard for it. She turned her dreams into reality and decided not to give up. Congratulations Prachi Sukhwani , for making your way into IIM Ahemdabad. We all are proud of you. (sic),” they wrote.
