M Venkaiah Naidu, a veteran BJP leader from Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday filed his nomination as NDA's Vice Presidential (VP) candidate.

Naidu filed his nomination in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and other NDA leaders.

AIADMK, TRS and Shiv Sena members also accompanied Naidu as he files nomination for VP polls.

Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and several top leaders of the NDA were among those who proposed and seconded Naidu's candidature in the several sets of nomination papers filed in his favour.

"Now, I do not belong any party," said Naidu as he resigned from the BJP.

Naidu was chosen at the BJP Parliamentary board meeting attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior party leaders.

The former BJP president is pitted against Gopalkrishna Gandhi, who was chosen by an alliance of 18 opposition parties, including the Congress.

The electoral college for the August 5 election consists of 790 MPs of the two chambers of Parliament.

Today is the last day for the filing of nominations.
