In a shocking incident, four minor boys from backward community abducted a six-year-old dalit girl and allegedly gangraped her in Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow to take revenge for being admonished by her grandmother.

According to an FIR lodged by the survivor’s mother, her daughter, who was sleeping with her in a shanty in Faridinagar in Indiranagar, was found missing when she woke up in the middle of the night. When they could not find her in the locality, she went to search for her in a nearby forest area along with a few neighbours.

“I spotted four boys in a corner. One of them was on top of my daughter. They ran away when I shouted to scare them and save my daughter. She was semi-naked and was crying in pain with blood oozing out from her private part. We immediately informed the police who rushed her to the hospital,” she told.

The Ghazipur Police Station Circle Officer A.C. Srivastava said based on the description provided by the victim’s mother, the police has detained a boy, allegedly involved in the gangrape. “The victim is out of danger and is recuperating in the government hospital,’ said the CO.

The victim has identified the boy and told her mother that he was one among others who had dragged her to the forest by gagging her. The police said that boy has revealed names of his three accomplices who are all minors and belonged to backward castes. They all are residents of Faridinagar and reside a close distance from victim’s house.

When grilled why they committed the crime, the boy told the police that they were admonished by her grandmother a few days ago when they playing near her house. He said that they wanted to teach her grandmother a lesson. They abducted her when she was sleeping with her mother and took her to jungle to rape her, the boy told the police.

“We have registered a gangrape case against four minor boys under POCSO Act and SC/ST Act on the complaint of the victim's mother. A team has been constituted to investigate the case and arrest other three boys who are on the run,” said the CO, Ghazipur.

The CO said that victim’s medical examination is being conducted by a panel of doctors and the police will proceed in the case accordingly.

The police said that the boy was also being sent for the medical examination to ascertain his age and confirmation of his participation in the gang rape in order to invoke new provisions under the amended POCSO Act. Amendment into the POCSO Act after Kathua gang-rape provides death penalty for accused in rape / gang rape of children under the age of 12 years.

The police are treading very cautiously in the case as the victim is only six-year-old and a dalit and all the four accused are minors and backwards. Once arrested, medical examinations will be conducted on the boys to ascertain whether or not they actually participated in the crime.
