Andhra Pradesh: JNTU Vice-Chancellor MM Sarkar, two others killed in a road accident

The car that MM Sarkar was travelling by collided with a lorry on the national highway in Anantapuramu district of Andhra Pradesh.

Vice-Chancellor of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (Anantapur) MM Sarkar and two others were killed on Wednesday when the car in which they were travelling collided with a lorry on the national highway in Anantapuramu district of Andhra Pradesh.

Apart from Sarkar, his personal assistant Fakruddin and his driver Prasad died in the mishap. The VC and others were heading for Kurnool to take part in an NSS programme when a speeding lorry rammed the car at Pamidi this afternoon. While Sarkar and the driver Prasad were killed on the spot, Fakruddin succumbed in the hospital, police said.

Governor ESL Narasimhan expressed grief over Sarkar's death. "His services to the education sector will always be remembered," the Governor said in his message.

State HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Information Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy and Pradesh Congress president N Raghuveera Reddy also condoled the tragic death of the VC.
