The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all varsities and higher education institutes across the country to observe the Digital India Week (DIW) beginning Wednesday.

The ambitious Digital India campaign will be launched here tomorrow by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a view to empower the people of the country through the Digital India Programme. 'Digital India' refers to the government's campaign to digitally deliver essential services to all the citizens across the country and includes raising digital awareness among people.

Apart from the event here, 600 districts across the country will organise various programmes to sensitise people about the ongoing activities under the Digital India platform. The UGC has sent a communication to all varsity Vice Chancellors and heads of institutions to organise various activities during the week.

"It is requested that your university may take part during the DIW and organise various activities like competitions for students and faculty members, sessions on digital services, Digital India fest etc," the letter said.

The varsities have also been asked to appoint a nodal officer for conducting DIW activities and communicate to UGC the activities conducted by them during the week.
