Two Maoists arrested by security forces in Chhattisgarh

Two wanted Maoists were arrested during a search operation by security forces in the insurgency-hit Kanker district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, police said.

Maoists cadres Ayatu Ram Salam (30) and Singaram Potai were apprehended from the forests under Badgaon police station limits, Kanker Superintendent of Police (SP) RN Dash told PTI on Tuesday.

A joint squad of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the district force was in the midst of a combing exercise in Badgaon region, located around 250 kms away from the state capital.

On reaching Pittegudum village, they spotted two suspects who were keeping a tab on the movement of security forces, after hich they rounded up the duo, the SP said.

During interrogation, they admitted their involvement with the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) movement as people's militia members, he said.

They were allegedly involved in various Maoist incidents in the region and warrants were also pending against them, the SP said, adding that they are being interrogated.
