An assistant revenue officer and a supervisor of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) were caught red-handed while accepting bribe during ‘Mega Lok Adalat’,  organised to grant amnesty to defaulters.

The officials thought of making money from defaulters by settling matters, but did not expect that Lokayukta police would be watching them.

Lalit Kumar Doshi went to Lok Adalat on Saturday for paying his long pending property tax in the amnesty scheme. He came to know that he and his brother had to pay Rs 38,000 each for not paying property tax for the two shops in a shopping complex, Lokayukta police said.

The assistant revenue official, Rajesh Joshi asked them to pay Rs. 10,000 each in bribe so that he will reduce their penalty amount to Rs. 10,000 each. Doshi approached Lokayukta special police establishment and told them about the incident. Immediately police swung in action and laid a trap to catch him red-handed.

Later Doshi went to IMC and handed the bribe amount to the official. The Official handed the money to a supervisor Mohammed Sharif. Sharif counted the money and silently slid the money under a file.

Police said, “We immediately caught both the officials and performed chemical test on them to prove their guilt.” Police has arrested the officials and registered a case under section 7, 12, 13(1)D, 13(2) of prevention of corruption act and investigating into the matter.
