Twitterati have a field day mocking Opposition after BJP sweeps UP civic polls

In what comes as a major boost to the BJP ahead of the Gujarat Assembly polls, the saffron party today swept the Uttar Pradesh civic polls.

In the polls which were being dubbed as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's first electoral test, the BJP bagged several prestigious mayoral seats including Ayodhya, Varanasi, Lucknow, Gorakhpur and was leading in several others.

Of the BJP 16 mayoral seats results of which were declared, the Bharatiya Janata Party (​BJP) scored win in 14 seats. Thew BSP, which fought the civic polls on its symbol after 17 years, won two seats.

The Congress faced a humiliating defeat Amethi, a bastion of  the Lok Sabha constituency of its vice president Rahul Gandhi. The Congress lost in Jais and Gauriganj where Nagar Palika polls were held. In Amethi and Musafirkhana, where Nagar Panchayat polls were held, the party had not fielded candidates.

While the top BJP leaders took to Twitter to congratulate Yogi and other state level functionaries of the party, there was somewhat a silence on the Opposition side.

The results gave another day to twitterati to mock the Opposition leaders.
