A senior IPS officer has alleged that AIADMK (Amma) leader V K Sasikala was being given preferential treatment in the Bengaluru jail, and there was 'talk' that senior jail officials accepted Rs 2 crore as bribe to facilitate it.

After being convicted by the Supreme Court in a disproportionate assets case, Sasikala has been lodged in the Parappana Agrahara Central jail.

The AIADMK chief is getting special facilities, including an exclusive kitchen to cook food for her, in complete violation of jail rules, says a report by DIG Roopa D Moudgil.

The report says that Sasikala paid Rs 2 crore to jail officials to get special treatment, adding that Karnataka Director General of Prisons (DGP) Satyanarayana Rao could be one of the top officials who were paid money.

DIG Roopa sent her findings to highlight multiple violations in the central jail to her boss, according to an NDTV report.

"It (special kitchen) is said to be continuing despite you being aware of it. It is being rumoured that 2 crores bribe has been given for this and allegations of your involvement is unfortunate... So guilty officers should be punished", DIG Roopa said in communication to Rao.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered an inquiry into allegations made by DIG Roopa

“We have taken serious cognizance of the allegation of irregularities in Bengaluru Central Prison & ordered a high level inquiry,” tweeted Siddaramaiah.

"Request all to await the outcome of this inquiry. Strict action will be taken against any person found guilty of wrongdoing," he said in another tweet.

However, Rao rubbished the charge against him by Roopa, terming it "absolutely false, baseless and wild". He said he would take legal recourse against his junior.

He said no special treatment was meted out to anybody, adding that even in the matter of visitations, ministers, MPs and MLAs of Tamil Nadu were not being obliged.

Refuting Roopa's allegations at a press conference today, Rao said no "undue favour" was being shown to Sasikala. He said she was taking prison food as other inmates.

"There is no special kitchen. She is like any other prisoner," Rao said.

"I'm open to any investigation. Instead she has gone to media without any evidence," he said.

According to CNN-News18, the excerpts from the letter read, "You (DGP) have been interfering with my work ever since I took charge. On 11th July, I got your memo that sought explanation on why I went to Central Jail on 10th July. I have full powers to enquire into happenings in the Central Jail -- but such memos sent by you require introspection on the functioning of the jail administration itself."

The report also said that Sasikala wasn't the only beneficiary. "Convicts like Abdul Kareem Telgi have enjoyed the comfort of three or four undertrials to serve him, even do tasks like massage his feet," she reportedly said in the letter.
