Even as protests rocked Tamil Nadu for the fourth successive day, following the suicide of Dalit girl S Anitha, the all-party meet convened by DMK on Monday decided to hold a massive public rally in Trichy on September 8 seeking to scrap the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET).
"A massive rally will be held in Trichy on September 8 on behalf of the Opposition parties condemning the state and the Central governments for imposing the NEET on Tamil Nadu students. We will announce our next course of action which will get the attention of the state and the Central governments," Leader of Opposition and DMK working president MK Stalin said after chairing the all-party meeting at his party headquarters here.

It blamed the state and the Centre for the suicide of Anitha who had unsuccessfully fought against the NEET in the Supreme Court. Anitha, a daughter of the daily wager, had scored 98 per cent marks in the plus two examinations in the state syllabus but did not get the medical seat in the NEET based admission.
They also wanted Education to be brought back to the state list from the concurrent list.
For the fourth successive day, students from several colleges in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry staged protest demonstration and took rallies to condemn the death of Anitha. The protesters also demanded that they continue to agitate will the Central government exempt the State from the NEET.
Amid student's protest, the counselling to the medical seats based on the NEET completed in all government colleges in the State on Monday itself as per the apex court's deadline. The classes for first year medical and dental colleges also began.
