Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari today met the families of the four sanitation workers who died while cleaning a septic tank in Ghitorni last week.

Tiwari was also accompanied by the chairmen of Scheduled Caste(SC) Commission and National Commission for Safai Karmcharis (NCSK), a statement issued from Delhi BJP media department head Mahesh Verma said.

"During the meeting with the families at Chhatarpur and Ghitorni, the Safai Karmchari commission chairman announced a cash compensation for the bereaved families. The compensation is likely to be Rs 10 lakh for each family, as per rules of the Centre," it said.

On July 15, the four sanitation workers died of asphyxiation while cleaning the septic tank in an under- construction building in south Delhi's Ghitorni.

Two men, including supervisor of the building Niranjan Singh and gardner Ridhipal, have been arrested by the police in the matter.

Tiwari said he will request Lt Governor Anil Baijal to instruct Delhi Jal Board to empanel septic tank cleaning workers, adding that it should also provide safety kits to them.
