A member of freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s family has landed in trouble as a 41-year-old woman has lodged a complaint of rape against him. The complainant in the case has alleged that Rohit Tilak, the great-grandson of Lokmanya Tilak, forced her into having unnatural sex.

The complaint was registered at Vishrambaug police station on Monday night. According to the police, the complainant is a divorcee and she knew Tilak for the past few years.

In her complaint, the woman claimed that, after befriending her, Tilak gave her a false promise of marriage and sexually exploited her. The woman also alleged that he forced her into having unnatural sex.

“In her statement, she has alleged that when she became pregnant, Tilak physically assaulted her and forced her to abort the child,” a police officer from Vishrambaug police station told DNA.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case of rape under section 376, unnatural sex under section 377, and under other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Tilak is a former NSUI state president and he also contested state Assembly elections in 2014, where he was defeated by senior BJP leader Girish Bapat.

Despite repeated attempts that DNA made, Tilak was not available for comments.
