Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday once again targetted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Rafale fighter-jet deal during his visit to poll-bound Madhya Pradesh.

Rahul Gandhi questioned why the Bengaluru-based HAL was denied the contract. He also alleged that the contract was given to Reliance Defence which was set up just 10 days prior to the deal. "HAL was given the Rafale contract to generate jobs. It had 70 years of experience, but later the contract was given to Anil Ambani which had 10 days of experience only," Gandhi pointed out.

Stating that in a cricket match people called Sachin Tendulkar a run-machine, Rahul said, "In Madhya Pradesh, people call its CM as 'Ghoshna-machine' and PM as 'Lie-machine' because of all the hollow promises: Congress President."

"PM goes to France and changes the deal and gives it to Anil Ambani. French President admits that Govt of India gave them no choice but to choose Anil Ambani's company. This is a Rs 30000 Cr theft. Chowkidar is a thief. When I questioned him why the price was increased from ₹526Cr to ₹1670Cr, he had no answer. He couldn't meet my eyes," Gandhi said.

Alleging that PM Modi's policies are only for 10-15 of his rich friends, Gandhi said, "He can waive off loans of crony capitalists but not for farmers."

Attacking Shivraj Singh Chouhan over Vyapam, Gandhi said, "All those who are involved in the Rafale scam, Vyapam scam, E-tendering scam, they will be investigated and brought to justice."

"I want to promise farmers of MP that we will establish food processing plants in every district. Farmers deserve the right price for the hard work they do. Our party is a combination of experienced leaders and youth. They will together work to build Madhya Pradesh."

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi  hit out at the Modi government for reportedly targeting a Defence Ministry official who allegedly raised 'objections' over the price of the Rafale jets.

He took to Twitter to take a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a poem in Hindi alleging that he gave benefits to "crony capitalists" at the cost of state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in the Rafale deal.

Rahul began his two-day visit with prayers at the famous Kamta Nath temple in Satna district's Chitrakoot town.

The 48-year-old Amethi MP was accompanied by Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath, state party campaign committee chairman Jyotiraditya Scindia and Leader of Opposition in MP Assembly Ajay Singh.

On Friday, Gandhi will travel by a bus to address public meetings at Saipur Mod, Baron, Baikunthpur, Lalgaon and Chunari villages spread over Rewa and Satna, party leaders.

The Congress has been out of power in Madhya Pradesh since 2003.

During his earlier visit on September 17, Gandhi held a roadshow in Bhopal after performing a puja and taking blessings from 11 priests.

Ahead of Gandhi's last visit, posters were put up in Bhopal, calling him a 'Shiv bhakt' (devotee of Lord Shiva).
