Thiruvananthapuram: Onam celebrations go bad after jeep fatally runs into college student

A girl student of an engeneering college was was seriosly injured after a jeep hit her during Onam celebrations at the College campus, police said on Thursday.

The girl, a third-year Civil Engineering student, hailing from Malappuram was admitted to a private hosptial in Trivandrum, police said. Thanzi Basheer has now been put on ventilator support after undergoing surgery, said a report in Malayalam media.

Girl was returning to the hostel when the incident occurred last evening, officials said. Meanwhile, college authorities said that strict action would be initiated against the culprits and celebrations were held without permission.

Police have registered a case under provisions of traffic rules and the jeep involved in the accident has been seized.
