Just days after Senior Superintendent of Police, Shopian escaped a bid on his life, militants attacked the cavalcade of the commanding officer of 34 Rashtriya Riffles (RR) on Monday. Militants struck the cavalcade with automatic weapons at Kachdora Village in Shopian district.
Militants opened fire on the convoy near the mobile tower in the Kachdora Village, to which security forces immediately retaliated forcing the militants to take a hasty retreat. No loss of life or injuries were reported in the incident. "Some party of 34 RR were on move and they were fired at from the militants. The area was cordoned off and the search is on," said Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar, Senior Superintendent of Police, Shopian. Security forces immediately rushed in the reinforcements to the area to augment the troops in cordon and search operation and hunt down the militants.

On March 19, militants made an abortive bid on the life of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Shopian district, Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar when they attacked his cavalcade with automatic weapons near Harmen Village.
The attack on the army comes on the day when a high level security meeting was held to devise a summer strategy in the Kashmir valley. Sources said it was decided in the meeting, which was attended by all top security honchos, to step up efforts to bring local youth back from the jaws of militancy, ensure zero infiltration, avoid collateral damage and dealing sternly with those who try to derail forthcoming tourism season.
