An alleged terrorist escaped from police custody today by jumping off a moving train in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district.

Sheikh Abdul Naeem, an alleged HuJI operative, jumped off the Howrah-Mumbai Superfast Mail between Kharsiya and Shakti railway stations early this morning, said Raigarh Additional Superintendent of Police, Praphulla Thakur.

Naeem was lodged in Kolkata's Dumdum jail. Escorted by Kolkata police, he was being taken on a protection warrant to Mumbai for a hearing in a case on August 25, Thakur said.

Kolkata police has informed Government Railway Police (GRP) at Raipur about the incident following which a massive search has been launched to nab Naeem, he said.

A case has been registered with GRP at Raigarh, he added.
