Terror revisited Kashmir on Saturday when terrorists attacked a police party on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir's Qazigund leaving three persons including a cop and two civilians dead. A terrorist was later killed in police retaliation.

"A terrorist was also killed. In fact, pistol of one of the terrorists was also snatched by one of our cops," said Director General of Police SP Vaid.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening when a police party had gone to take stock of the situation after a road accident on the highway left one person dead near Mir Bazaar, Qazigund. When cops were busy inspecting the spot and clearing the road, a group of three terrorists surfaced and fired indiscriminately causing the death of three persons.

In the ensuing gunfight one terrorist was killed and another injured. A cop later tried to overpower the third terrorist but he somehow managed to flee. But the cop was able to snatch his pistol, sources said. Security forces have launched a massive manhunt to track down the two ultras who managed to escape from the scene. "One of the ultra is injured and we are following his blood trail," said an officer.

This is the second major terror attack in the last 48 hours in the restive south Kashmir. Terrorists had attacked an Army patrol when they were returning after conducting the operation at Kellora village near Imam Sahab in the Shopian district on Thursday evening. Three people including two Army men and a civilian driver of the troops were injured in the incident. The injured were rushed to hospital where civilian driver Nazir Ahmad succumbed.

The fresh attack comes on the day when Hizbul Mujhadeen leader Zakir Musa released an audio clip asking girl students not to pelt stones as it was "un-Islamic" and not allowed under Sharia.
