Sending a strong message to the Imran Khan government in Pakistan, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday made it absolutely clear that terror and talks can never go together.

"Terror and dialogue can never go together. India has tried hard. Our Prime Minister broke all protocols and met their Prime Minister and his family members. It was because that they are our neighbours and we believe we should have neighbourly relations with them. But there are no positive signs from their side." Singh told reporters after winding up a one-day visit to Kashmir.

Singh said some powers are using the instrument of terror against India because they do not like its economic growth. "Four years ago, India ranked nine in the top 10 economies of the world. Currently it is among the top six economies of the world. It will soon be in top five economies. But some powers in the world do not like the economic growth of India and they use terror to stop this. I want to make it clear that there plans will never succeed," he said.

The Union Home Minister also expressed government's willingness to talk to everyone in Jammu and Kashmir, who desires to have a dialogue to end the impasse on Kashmir. "I have been saying whosoever wants to talk, we are ready to talk to them. I do not want to comment on what steps are being taken in this regard. I want to reiterate that government will not shy away from talks," he said.

Singh noted with confidence there has been a major shift in the situation in the last four months with stone pelting incidents and militant recruitment showing a decreasing trend. "As far as security situation is concerned, there has been a major shift in the last four months. There has been a decrease in stone pelting and I have been told that there is decrease in militant recruitment as well," he said.

Describing Kulgam killings as very unfortunate, Singh extended heartfelt condolences to the families and announced Rs 5 lakh cash relief to the next of kin of the deceased.
