The Amboli police on Friday arrested ten persons, including a technician working at a Kandivli college and six students, in connection with the leak of a third-year Bachelor of Management Studies question paper of the University of Mumbai, two days earlier.

According to the police, the college technician has been named as the main accused in the racket. He allegedly downloaded the question papers received on email by the college from the university and leaked it to students and other persons involved in the racket. He would allegedly charge Rs 2,000 per student to leak the paper.

Meanwhile, the University of Mumbai has formed a one-member committee to look into the issue.

"A committee has been formed to look into the issue and the report will be submitted soon," said a senior university official.

On Wednesday, a third-year BMS paper was reportedly doing the rounds on WhatsApp minutes before the examination. A day later, a student at an Andheri college was found with a copy of the 'Marketing E-commerce and Digital Marketing' paper minutes after the exam began on Thursday.

The third-year BMS student, who was writing her paper at MVM College of Commerce in Andheri (W), was found with a copy of the paper in her mobile phone at 11.45 am by one of the junior supervisors at the college. According to the official press statement issued by the university, a team of university officials visited the college and directed the authorities to register a complaint on the issue.

"The six students arrested are from two colleges in Juhu and Kandivli. A total of nine mobile phones, along with computers, printers and hard discs have been seized as part of the investigations. We will make further arrests in the case as per the links we get during investigations. We are investigating further," said Paramjit Singh Dahiya, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 9.

"We had registered a case under sections 5,6 and 8 of Prevention of Malpractices in Maharashtra University Board & Other Examinations Act, 1982 and under section 66(d) of the Information Technology Act," he added.
