Telangana: Pregnant woman assaulted and paraded naked in Warangal

On Monday, a 20-year-old pregnant woman was stripped, assaulted and paraded naked in Wardhannapet by her husband's first wife's relatives. A report in Deccan Chronicle states that the relatives blamed the young woman for neglecting the first wife. They allegedly beat her up, burnt her private parts with a piece of burning wood and paraded her naked on the streets, 

The police and local people came to the help of the young woman, Anitha, and rescued her and admitted her to the local hospital. Now the police have filed a case against nine people including Anitha's husband, Bbanoth Ravi, and the first wife Swaroopa. 

Wardhannapet CI Santhosh has told the daily that Anitha and Ravi, who was a farmer, got secretly married in Tirupati in March 2015. But Ravi had already been married to Swaroopa for five years and had two children. Once Swaroopa found out, they had a big argument and he apparently started to neglect her and moved in with Anitha.

The police have also told the daily that Ravi ill-treated Swaroopa and her parents when they questioned him. Swaroopa finally went to the panchayat who was looking into the matter. Ravi had reportedly told her he would give Rs 7.5 lakh to his children and divorce her. 

At the panchayat hearing, a fight broke out between Ravi, Swaroopa and Anitha. Ravi was attacked by Swaroopa's relatives and he fled so they then attacked Anitha.

Police cases were registered and Swaroopa and Ravi are now in custody along with some others adds the daily.
