A Russian tourist was beaten up by Telangana farmer who mistook the visitor for a thief, reports IANS.

V Oleg, who is touring India by cycling around, has been admitted to Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad after sustaining injuries on his head, jaw and right arm.

The 44-year-old Russian was on his way to Shirdi in Maharashtra from Nizamabad when near Bhiknoor village he came across a thunderstorm that forced him to stop and take shelter.

Oled pitched his tent near a field and was waiting for the weather to clear. This is when Mahender Reddy, the farmer who owns the field, had come out to inspect the damage his crops sustained because of the weather.

Reddy saw the tent, cyclist and assumed that the Russian is a thief. Oleg couldn't understand what the farmer was trying to say in Telugu. Reportedly, before he could enlist the help of Google translator app, Oleg was being beaten up by Reddy with his torch.  Soon, locals joined the farmer in attacking Oleg.

According to the doctors at the hospital, Oleg now has to spend a couple of days under observation.
