Telangana, Andhra Pradesh reel under heat wave; over 150 die of sun stroke

Heat wave in several parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh has claimed 153 lives so far even as people continued to reel under intense heat wave conditions, officials said on Saturday.

As many as 73 persons died in Telangana and 80 deaths were recovered in Andhra Pradesh due to severe heatwave conditions prevailed in the two states, officials said.

"73 persons died in Telangana as per the information received till last evening," Revenue Secretary B R Meena told 

Parts of the districts of Nalgonda, Nizamabad and Karimnagar are among the worst-hit by oppressive heat, said Director of Meteorological Department, Hyderabad, Y K Reddy, who added that day temperatures are forecast to rise further till Sunday.

The people residing in the region said that the temperature was heading to unbearable limits.

Telangana Government has issued "Do's and Don'ts" list for the people, who have been asked not to venture outside when the day temperatures are high.

"It is very hot. The skin is burning like anything. If it rains it is very good, the temperature comes down. It is very helpful for the people," said Nayan, a resident of Hyderabad.

The worst victims of the heat wave are daily wage labourers and homeless people. 

A day ago, officials from the State Disaster Management Department said the government has instructed various departments to make arrangements at community levels.

"All the people working for the public have to be provided with mobile phones and their mobile numbers should be communicated to all officials, who are in the district, so that any incident that happens in a village or district, they have to take care of it," said Sadha Bhargavi, Assistant Director of State Disaster Management Department.
