Talking while driving in Rajasthan will cost your license

The Rajasthan High Court on Friday issued directions to the Aditional Police Commissioner of Jodhpur to cancel the driving license of all those found using mobile phones while driving.

The Rajasthan High Court on Friday issued directions to the Aditional Police Commissioner of Jodhpur to cancel the driving license of all those found using mobile phones while driving.

These directions were issued by a bench comprising Justice GK Vyas and Justice RC Jhala after AAG Rajesh Panwar informed the court that drivers using mobile phones while driving.

The court said that this was leading to accidents and directed that photographs and other credentials of such drivers be forwarded to RTO concerned so that their licenses could be canceled. 

The court order reads, “In view of above, the State Government as well as Additional Police Commissioner-Traffic, Jodhpur is directed to ensure that no vehicle driver shall use mobile phone while driving the vehicles and if it is found that vehicles drivers are using mobile while plying the vehicles, then after obtaining their photographs and other credentials of such vehicles drivers, the same may be forwarded to the concerned RTO for cancellation of driving licence of such erring person.”

The court further directed the RTO and other concerned authorities to initiate proceedings for cancellations of such licenses as per law. It said this should be done after providing the offender driver a chance to be heard.
