Suspected al-Qaeda operative was 'facilitator': Delhi Police

The Delhi Police on Friday said that Anzar Shah, who was arrested for having alleged links with the Al-Qaeda, was a 'facilitator' involved in sending a recruit abroad for training.

"We came to know about the existence of this module by the end of 2014. We arrested Mohammed Asif and also Abdur Rehman from Cuttak. Interrogation of the two revealed startling facts, on the basis of these facts we arrested Anzar Shah from Bengaluru," Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Arvind Deep said.

"We produced him in the court yesterday and he will be in police remand till January 20. His main role was that of a facilitator. His main involvement was to send one Umar Hyderabadi abroad for training," he added.

A team of Delhi Police Special Cell reportedly arrested a madrassa teacher on Wednesday from Bengaluru on suspicion of having links with an al-Qaeda module operating in India.
He was subsequently produced in a Delhi Court on Thursday which sent him to police custody till January 20.
