External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday took a jibe at Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan saying that even celebrities with two children had made us of surrogacy.

Swaraj made the remarks while addressing the media after the Union Cabinet cleared a draft Surrogacy Bill which aims to safeguard the rights of surrogate mothers and make parentage of such children legal.

Speaking to media, she said, "Big celebrities who not only have one but two children, a son and a daughter, even then they went ahead with Surrogacy," reported ANI.

Swaraj also said that, "Jo cheez zaroorat ke naam pe shuru ki gayi thi woh ab shauk ban gayi hai (What had been started as a need has now become a trend)."

Shah Rukh Khan has three children with wife Gauri—  Aryan, Suhana and AbRam. Aamir Khan has Junaid, Ira with ex-wife Rina and Azad with Kiran Rao. The actors opted for surrogacy for the birth of their youngest sons.

While speaking about the new bill's proposal to completely ban commercial surrogacy, Sushma said, "Unmarried couples, single parents, live-in partners and homosexuals cannot opt for surrogacy."

"National Surrogacy Board at central level, State Surrogacy Boards in State & UTs will be formed," she added.

To prevent exploitation of women, especially those in rural and tribal areas, the government has prohibited foreigners from commissioning surrogacy in the country and has drafted this comprehensive legislation.
