While the Pune police are still groping in the dark to find the culprit who sexually assaulted the two and half year old girl and killed her, the Maharashtra state commission for women has sought a detailed report from cops on the incident and the action taken by them.

The two and half year old girl was kidnapped from her house when she was sleeping next to her mother in their house on Saturday night. Later on Sunday morning, her body was found few meters away from the house. Even after two day of the incident, the police have not yet traced the culprit.

The state commission for women has also taken a serious cognisance of the incident and the commission has sought report from the police. The report has been sought under sections 12 (2) and (3) of the Maharashtra state commission for women Act, 1993. Vijaya Rahatkar, chairperson of the commission said, "It is a very shocking incident where a small girl was kidnapped from her house and she was assaulted before killing her. Taking suo-moto action, I have written a letter to the Pune police commissioner seeking a detailed report on the action taken by them regarding the case." Rahatkar also stated that she will be visiting the family by the end of this month.

Shiv Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe has also expressed concern over the safety of women while referring to this incident and three other incidents taken place in Mumbai recently. Gorhe said, "There have been incidents of harassment of women in the IT sector in cities like Pune, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata. Apart from that there are incident of school girls being harassed in parts of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand. These incidents indicate that our society is still rigid to accept women's participation in various sectors."

"There is a need for the state and the central government to come up with Nirbhaya action plan where an one stop crisis center will be opened in every constituency to deal with cases of harassment against women. Only after opening such centers, there is a possibility of implementing the policy of zero tolerance against women harassment," Gorhe said.

Meanwhile, the Pune police have formed multiple teams to trace the culprit. According to the police, the locality where the girl's family stays is not properly illuminated and they are finding it hard to get clues of the culprit from the CCTV installed in nearby localities.
