With just days left for the elections, star campaigners have been putting in extra hours to woo voters in Assam. While the Congress approached the campaign trail with a traditional approach and sent in Rahul Gandhi to three constituencies, a day after mother Congress President Sonia Gandhi campaigned.
Speaking at Digboi, Rahul Gandhi asked voters to choose wisely to not fall for 'communal politics'. "Everywhere BJP has gone, there has been a trail of violence," he said. He then went to campaign in Moran and then at Tezpur. He was accompanied by CM Tarun Gogoi and Anjan Dutta.
Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who was slated to front a rally in Silchar, did not turn up. The official statement was that his helicopter had a malfunction, but locals alleged that the rally did
not have a healthy turn out.

Speaking at a conference at Guwahati, party leader Salman Khurseed took potshots at Smriti Irani, who had taken up the issue of the missing marksheets across Assam of students appearing for their tenth
boards. "People without a proper education are talking of scams in education. Now, I think they must get a degree in mathematics to understand the situation," he said.
On Friday, Congress is slated to bring in senior leader Jairam Ramesh. Another senior leader who did not turn up for voters is HRD Minister Smriti Irani. While voters sweated out in the heat, Irani, who could not turn up spoke to the voters via her phone through the microphone.
BJP chief Amit Shah, who spoke in Dhemaji took up the issue of infiltrates and asked the voters to use their votes as a key "lock" them away. "If you vote for BJP, there will be no such problem, but if you vote for Ajmal then you will be handing him the key to your state," he state.
However, the star campaigner remained Himanta Biswa Sharma, who pulled in the crowds at Udarband in the Barak Valley despite the rain late Thursday evening in the dark. "The fact that all of you have come in from so far and have stood here for us shows us that this time Congress is on a weak footing," he said.
The Barak valley also saw a rallay by AIUDF supremo Badruddin Ajmal. And Bodoland Territorial Council chief Hagrama Mohilary who campaigned in Misapur along with Ashok Singhal said that BTC ally BJP will come to power. "The current status of Congress is so bad that it is now shameful," he said.
