South Delhi Lok Sabha constituency profile

From the farmhouses in Chhatarpur to high-end joints in Hauz Khas to large swathes of the rural belt which have now changed to unauthorised colonies in Deoli, Sangham Vihar- South Delhi Lok Sabha constituency is an eclectic mix of Bharat and India living in happy co-existence. It has been one of BJP's strongest seat though Congress has got a foothold after delimitation in 2008 when many of the urban pockets in the seat went to New Delhi constituency.

In South Delhi LS, it's the fight between sitting BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri, decorated sportsman Vijender Singh and CA turned politician- popular TV face Raghav Chadha of AAP.

In the past, BJP has won the seat seven times, Congress has won the seat in five occasions. BJP stalwarts like Sushma Swaraj, Madan Lal Khurana, and VK Malhotra have won the seat multiple numbers of times.
In the last election, Ramesh Bidhuri defeated AAP's Devinder Sehrawatr by 1.07 lakh votes to win and Congress candidate Ramesh Kumar came third.

All the parties are bullish about their chances but at the end of the day it may come down to caste equations. Bidhuri, a tall Gujjar leader also boasts of his connect with Jats. On the other hand, Congress has fielded a Jat in Vijender Singh, with base in Bhiwani.  Raghav Chadha is hoping that people will go beyond the vortex of caste and identity to vote on 'real' issues in this election. Sealing and lack of drinking water and proper sanitation are some of the major issues in this seat.

Ramesh Bidhuri has claimed that he has completely exhausted his MPLAD fund money. In his election speech, Bidhuri has made nationalism and Balakot strike as a major poll plank. Bidhuri landed into controversy over saying unparliamentary words about Arvind Kejriwal and despite backlash has stuck to his words.

The assembly segments under South Delhi Lok Sabha constituency are: Bijwasan, Palam, Mehrauli, Chhatarpur, Deoli, Ambedkar Nagar, Sangam Vihar Kalkaji, Tughlakabad and Badarpur Nearly . Over 20.65 lakh voters will decide fate on May 12
