Pakistan army launched a fresh offensive on the Line of Control (LOC) on Thursday when they fired indiscriminately on Indian forward positions, killing a jawan and a civilian porter in the Kirshna Ghati (KG) sector of Poonch district in Jammu division. Another five soldiers and a porter were left injured in the assault.

The incident occurred in the morning when Pakistan troops resorted to unprovoked firing, fatally injuring Sepoy TK Reddy and Defence Porter Mohd Zahier. They were admitted to a hospital, where they succumbed.

"Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms and automatics from 10.35 am in KG sector along the LOC. One jawan along with one civilian porter were martyred," said Colonel NN Joshi, defence spokesman at Udhampur-based Northern Command Headquarters. Indian troops swung into action and fired back at the Pakistani army. "The exchange of fire was on in Khari Karmara village on the LoC," said an officer.

The latest ceasefire violation comes nine days after Pakistani army killed 35-year-old Naik Mahendra Chemjung of 7/11 Gorkha Riffles.
