The Pakistan army resorted to heavy firing on Indian forward positions along the Line of Control (LoC) on Saturday leaving one soldier injured in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district in Jammu region.

The Indian army retaliated to the heavy cross-border firing by Pakistan troops on Saturday morning.

"Ceasefire violation in Nowshera Sector occurred at about 10:30 am. Enemy opened small arms fire leading to one soldier getting injured. The jawan is out of danger and has been evacuated to command Hospital in Udhampur," said Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand, defence spokesman at Jammu.

This is the third ceasefire violation by Pakistan since Imran Khan took over as Pakistan Prime Minister on August 18. Pakistani army violated the ceasefire on August 18 when they pounded the Indian posts and civilian areas on the LoC in Tangdhar sector of North Kashmir. Two people received minor injuries after they were hit by stray stones when a shell exploded on a rock.

Later on the same day Pakistan fired mortar shells on the civilian areas in Uri sector.

On August 14 Indian army had launched a calibrated fire assault against the Pakistani army and killed two of their soldiers in Tangdhar sector after an army jawan was killed while foiling infiltration bid in the same area on August 13.

The fresh ceasefire violation comes a day after three Jaish-e-Mohommad militants were neturalised at Kakriyal in Jhajjar Kotli after they infiltrated from Pakistan most likely from the Hiranagar sector of International Border.

Official figures revealed that 633 ceasefire violations were recorded along the LoC and the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir in first two months of 2018. Of these 432 incidents were reported from the Line of Control and 201 on the International Border. Ten security personnel and 12 civilians were killed in these violations.

Last year there were 860 ceasefire violations along the LoC and 111 incidents on the International Border. Twelve 12 civilians were killed and 59 others were injured in these incidents in 2017. Six Army personnel and four BSF men were also killed and 18 army soldiers and 22 BSF jawans were injured in these incidents.
