The event was the longest Terry Towel Human Chain organised by Textile Development Foundation. It had 2,048 people forming a chain on September 27 on the sidelines of 'The Vibrant Terry Towel Global Expo and Solapur 2019'.

"To ensure that the Terry Towel exhibition is attended in large numbers every year, we decided to have this chain. Solapur is a big hub of towels and we want more international buyers coming here. The grand human chain was formed on September 27 at Lingraj Valyaal Ground, behind Walchand Engineering College, Solapur. The previous record of such a human chain with Terry Towels is of 1,646 persons in Italy a few years ago.

"Mostly manufacturers and students studying in nearby colleges participated in it," said Zanavar.

The Textile Development Foundation in association with Global Network (International Trade Advisory) and supported by Maharashtra's Ministry for Co-operative, Marketing and Textile, Maharashtra, had organised 'The Vibrant Terry Towel Global Expo and Summit 2019'. It was held at Karmaveer Appasaheb Kadadi Sanskrutik Bhavan, Siddheshawar Sahakari Sugar Factory Area, Hotgi Road, Solapur, Maharashtra.

"Today we received certificate from Guinness World Records confirming of this unique achievement for organising the longest Human Towel Chain. We are very happy to have set the record which will in addition to giving a boost to the industry for growth and unit, it also brings Solapur on the World Map," said Rajesh Goski, President, TDF.

TDF looks to have exhibitions every year. "The idea was to go global and it has already hit the world map. We held the event in such a way that world would surely get attracted and it literally turned out to be a success," said Zanavar.

TDF states that it looks to bring together the whole gamut of people involved in this sector from cotton growers and manufacturers to traders, exporters and importers on a platform to help market and export terry towel. It also looks to reduce the gap between producers and consumers
