Soaps, shampoos from cow urine!

Authorities of Sabarmati Central Prison have decided to add one more means of earning for prisoners lodged in the largest jail of the state. They will soon start making personal care products from cow dung and gau mutra (cow urine).  

The prison officials said that there are 100 cows on the jail premises. The inmates will make 12 products including shampoo, soap, toothpowder, face wash, hair oil from cow dung and urine.

The authorities will also sell cow urine in packed bottles of 250gm, 500gm and one litre. All their products will be soon available at the retail outlet of the prison near Subhash Bridge.

The officials will take help of Shree Ram Gau Vigyan Sauvardhan Seva Trust of Vadodara in the initiative. Experts from the trust will train prisoners in making the products. The jail authorities have already purchased a urine purifying machine to make the cow urine, which has medicinal properties, hygienic.

Incidentally, a few months ago, the jail inmates had started making colourful wooden sparrow houses. They were kept on the premises of various jails and also sold to the public.
