Smriti Irani brainstorms with RSS affiliates on skill initiative

Government on Sunday held elaborate discussions with RSS affiliates and other institutions on the Skill India initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a meeting that lasted for five hours today, HRD Minister Smriti Irani invited suggestions of around 75 institutions working in skill development sector on the key areas of focus of the Government.
Among the institutions represented at the meeting held at the residence of Irani were RSS affiliated organisations engaged in promoting science and education such as Vigyan Bharati, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Sansthan and Vidya Bharati.

Also present were the representatives of Chitrakoot University, ITIs, NGOs working in skill development sector from all over the country including Jammu and Kashmir, Chhattisgarh and the Northeast. Rajeev Pratap Rudy, minister in charge of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, also took part in the meeting which, sources said, was meant to elicit views of stakeholders in carrying forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi's skill development project".

"The institutions were asked to give suggestions on how to go forward in creating skill development centres across educational institutions. Responses were also elicited on the nature of skills which need to be developed with employability and economic growth in mind," said a source. The meeting was an extension of Government's past policy of establishing a dialogue with the RSS and other stakeholders on matters that impact sectors like education, environment, law and now skilling. Today's meeting was also attended by some functionaries of HRD Ministry.
