SL Navy Chief to review INA passing out parade on May 27

Sri Lankan Navy Chief, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne will review the passing out parade of the cadets of Spring Term 2017 of Indian Naval Academy(INA), at Ezhimala in Kannur district on May 27.

This is the first time that a foreign Naval Chief will be the reviewing officer at the Passing out Parade of INA, signifying the warm and friendly ties between India and Srilanka, an INA release said here today.

Naval cooperation between India and Sri Lanka has been traditionally strong, encompassing a wide range of issues including operational interactions through bilateral exercises, port calls, capability building and capacity augmentation initiatives.

The Admiral has done his Sub Lieutenant Technical Course, specialisation course in Anti Submarine Warfare and National Defence College Course in India.

He had been the Defence Adviser at the Sri Lanka High Commission in New Delhi from November 2000 to April 2004, it said.

As many as 338 cadets from four courses, namely 92nd Indian Naval Academy Course (B.Tech), 92nd Indian Naval Academy Course (M.Sc), 23rd Naval Orientation Course (Extended) and 24th Naval Orientation Course (Regular), will pass out on successful completion of their training, the release said.

They include 25 female cadets, of whom 19 would join the Indian Navy and the other six the Indian Coast Guard.

Two International cadets, one from Tanzania and other from Benin would also pass out on successful completion of their training.

As part of the events connected with POP, cadets of 92nd INAC will be awarded their B.Tech degree by Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, Anil D Sahasrabudhe during the Convocation ceremony on May 26.

INA's four year B.Tech degree course is accredited by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and conducted under the aegis of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, it added.
