The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the rape case involving arrested Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh recently arrested the chief’s close aide Dr Mahinder Pal Singh.

Mahinder, a surgeon by profession, has been booked for castrating the cult group’s followers.

According to a Times of India report, Mahinder’s name had cropped up during investigations into the alleged castrations of Dera Sacha Sauda followers that also include the Sirsa dera chief's security guards and personal staff. He was also a close associate of Aditya Insan, another prominent dera follower and the mastermind of violence along with Honeypreet Insan. Adiya has been on the run since registration of case and SIT has put a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his arrest.

In August, violence had broken out in Panchkula following Ram Rahim Singh's arrest. The Centre was forced to rush as many as 150 companies of paramilitary forces to Punjab and Haryana to assist the police forces in maintaining law and order, a senior Union home ministry official said. One paramilitary company comprises over 100 personnel.

Flag marches were carried out by security forces in Panchkula, Sirsa, Hissar and other places while many hospitals were also put on alert as a precautionary measure, the official said.

The police were keeping a close watch on social media, particularly WhatsApp groups, Facebook and Twitter, and have asked people not to spread rumours, he said.

Bus services on many routes were also suspended as a precautionary measure.

The sexual exploitation case was registered against Dera chief in 2002 by the CBI on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court after anonymous letters were circulated about the alleged sexual exploitation of two 'Sadhvis' (female followers) by Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh for which he was pronounced guilty. He still has a pending case of murder registered against him.
